I structure my Personal Training into 3 pillars: Foundations, Processes, and Integration. I want to talk about what they are, what it looks like to have a Personal Trainer paying attention to that, and tell you about something I’m giving away for free.
This pillar focuses on the crucial steps taken before you even step into the gym. It's about building a strong foundation mentally and emotionally. This is where your transformation begins.
Goal Setting: What is your "why"? Identifying clear, achievable goals provides direction and purpose.
Self-Understanding: Knowing your strengths, weaknesses, and past experiences shapes a personalised approach. We assess where you are and where you want to be.
Mindset Preparation: Developing a positive, resilient mindset is essential. It's about believing in your ability to achieve.
What does this look like? On the weekly video chat check-ins we will review and develop your goals, understand why that is important, and talk about the obstacles and self-beliefs you need to manage to continue progressing.
If paying for a Personal Trainer is out of the question for price reasons, I’ll be running a Free Goal Setting and Mindset seminar* online. Click here for updates.
This is the heart of the training process, where the physical work occurs. Smart, strategic training yields results.
Program Design: Tailored programs designed to meet individual goals and address specific needs, integrating strength, endurance, and targeted training.
Technique Focus: Ensuring correct form and movement efficiency to prevent injury and maximize effectiveness.
Workout Structure: Managing rest intervals, pacing, and workout intensity to optimize performance during each session.
Movement Selection: Choosing exercises that effectively target desired muscle groups and energy systems while keeping workouts engaging and interesting.
A personalised program designed around your goals – with sensible use of rest, technique and pace – is going to be vital to your progress. We will work together to develop a workout program that is effective and interesting for you.
There will be a free Seminar on The Process. If you are interested in that, click here.
To be sustainable, your training needs to be integrated into your lifestyle. Your friends and family should support you instead of pulling you away. Stress needs to be managed. Sleep and recovery are vital. Nutrition is important.
In its crudest terms, exercise works by creating a physical demand on the body and then cashing in all that work with nutrition, rest, recovery and sleep.
Nutrition: Providing guidance on healthy eating habits to fuel workouts and promote recovery.
Sleep: Stressing the importance of adequate sleep for muscle repair, energy levels, and overall health.
Support System: Encouraging a positive social network and building supportive relationships that reinforce goals.
Active Recovery: Incorporating strategies for rest and recovery, such as mobility work and light activity, to enhance performance and prevent burnout.
We will discuss obstacles to your progress in the weekly catch ups, and talk about any data we should collect to better understand them. This might be tracking your sleep through a smart watch or app on your phone; talking about times you felt pressured into going drinking when you wanted to do something else; how food has affected your motivation.
There will be a free seminar on this, as well. Click here to receive updates.
* All three seminars are free, they have been separated out to keep their timings more manageable and to make sure each topic gets appropriate attention. At the time of writing, the seminar is in a late-draft stage and – including questions and answers – will be around 1 hour each.
These three pillars are not just about fitness; they're about creating lasting lifestyle changes. Effective personal training goes beyond the workouts. It's about preparing you mentally, optimizing your training experience, and supporting you in living a healthy, fulfilling life. These pillars ensure every aspect of your journey is taken care of.
